SWOT – Strenths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats

STRENGTHS
-
We organize very successful events
-
We raised money for upcoming school year
-
PTSA & Administrator relationship is very strong
-
Working on strategic planning for the year
-
Engaged with the staff & teachers
-
Core positions for 2015-16 have been filled (president, VP, treasurer, secretary)
-
We have both dads and moms as part of the executive team
WEAKNESSES
-
No teacher representative on the Board; the “T” in PTSA
-
We tend to have the same volunteers for our activities; all doers are the same people.
-
More things to do than bandwidth to do them
-
Operational structure could be better – We are event driven versus goal driven
OPPORTUNITIES
-
Our school’s demographics – how can we take advantage of our diversity?
-
Our student enrollment has increased – how can we translate that into increased PTSA membership?
-
We need to find parents to fill Volunteer Coordinator, Fundraising Chair, NAACP Rep, Marketing and Communications Chair and Staff Appreciation Coordinator positions
-
Need to work with Ms. Blackman to find a new student representative for the executive team; the “S” in PTSA
-
It would be nice to have an African American or African parent on the board (to be better representative of the school diversity)
THREATS
-
PTSA board is seen as not needing to have others step in or step up; “They are doing fine, don’t need me.”
-
Middle school life-cycle is short, especially for fundraising.
-
Perception of outside parents/reputation of the school
